The following table helps you finding the right projector/lens combinations for the Clay Paky VIP / SIP Display Line Projectors. Clay Paky’s charts don’t consider the use of gobos and can be misleading, therefore our charts are more accurate for gobo projection.

  1. Determine the projection distance and desired image size. Projection distance is the distance between the projector and the projection area (i.e. the wall that you project on) in feet. Image size is the diameter of the projected image in feet.
  2. Find the desired combination in one of the tables below.
  3. Select a lens that shows the desired image size at the given distance in one of the tables below.
  4. Select a projector that delivers sufficient illumination (see the box below).

HOW TO READ THE ILLUMINATION VALUES

For a quick overview, the illumination values in the following tables are color coded. There are many factors that determine the visibility of a projection, such as ambient light, color and reflectiveness of the projection surface, competing light, Gobo colors, projector color temperature, and other factors. Therefore our recommendations should only be used as guidelines and we cannot guarantee a successful application. If you are unsure, please call us to discuss your application. 

Sufficient brightness for bright environments, such as Office-, Lobby-, Retail, Trade Show, Conference-Environment, Outdoors (no direct sunlight). Color gobos project in vibrant colors.  

Sufficient brightness for darker environments, such as bars, clubs, and intimate restaurants, theaters, and conference rooms. Outdoors only visible at night. Color gobos should preferably be used with lighter colors and the projection surface should be light and somewhat reflective.

Only advisable for very dark environments and subtle projection of b/w gobos and light, reflective projection surface.
