Japanese nightclub uses hundreds of gobo lights to dazzle patrons

A new club opening in Osaka, Japan, has hired professional lighting designer Michael Meacham to develop a unique lighting style that will equally impress club-goers and diners alike. According to Life Design, Meacham has designed lighting for some of the most prestigious nightclubs in the world.

"My vision for this project was to create an expansive look inside the club," said Meacham, according to the news source. "The idea is to have an intimate lighting and video experience in every direction. We want people to be immersed in the entire space, no matter where they are in the club. Our goal is to create something that surrounds everyone."

Meacham had a particular challenge when it came to Vanity Osaka. He noted that the club had large structural support columns throughout the room, including on the dance floor, that had to be incorporated. Instead of trying to work around these columns, he centered his lighting design around them in order to improve the overall flow of the room. The designs included images and pixel mapping with a lot of free-form swirl patterns to create a unique visual experience.

Gobo lights can provide impressive patterns and logo projections for any lighting scheme. For a nightclub owner, they add a dramatic flair to the dance floor, or can be used in more subtle ways around the bar and seating areas to maintain a fluid theme throughout the establishment.
